5 New Year’s Resolutions Besides the Obvious

Halal Socks New Years 2020

New year, new you, as the saying goes! We’re all starting to put together a list of our New Year’s resolutions… Stay healthy, get wealthy… Work out, work hard… You know the drill. However, it’s 2020, a whole new decade! So why not try working on a whole new you? Take the opportunity to look deeper, and focus on the things you’d like to become better at. Here are five new year’s resolutions to focus on this year.

1. Focus on your inner self

Change starts with you. Take the opportunity of a new start to pause and reflect. Ask yourself, what do you like about yourself? What aspects would you like to work on? Are there any bad habits that you want to get rid of? Think of how you would like to improve your self, whether it’s being more grateful, quitting your nail biting habit, or just continuing on being awesome!

2. Do a Good Deed a Day

Helping others is not only good for them, but it’s good for you! Doing good makes you feel good, and it makes others feel great. Everyday, set a goal to do one nice thing for someone else. You could volunteer your time at the community center, give charity, plant a tree, help your mom with chores… There is always an opportunity out there to put a smile on someone’s face, and help the world become a better place.

3. Smile, it’s Charity

In Islam, merely smiling is an act of charity! Make the goal to stay positive and smile more! You’ll notice a positive change as you go about your day with a smile on your face. Plus, this can count as a good deed for a day. (Bonus, gifting a pair of Smile socks will put a smile on someone’s face and all the proceeds go to charity. Two in one!)

4. Spend more time with family and friends

It’s easy to get so caught up with our own personal lives and responsibilities that we don’t have time to hang out with family or friends. This year, make it a priority to spend quality time with family. Try to invite family and friends over, or go out with them whenever you have some spare time. The people in your life are important enough to be a part of a busy schedule!

5. Try something new, even if it’s small

It’s always good to try new things. Broaden your horizons. Face your fears. Sure, everyone says that things like skydiving or bungee jumping are on their bucket lists. But who says ‘something new’ means something big? Trying new things can be as simple as eating at a restaurant you’ve never been to, or trying out a simple activity you never thought of doing. Maybe you’ve never been horseback riding, and want to give it a shot. Or maybe you’ve never eaten a pickle. It could be anything, so long as you look for opportunities to shake things up a bit (in a good way!).

Whatever goal you deicide on, we hope you have a Happy New Year!
